The Bosch central gateway connects automotive communication networks such as CAN, LIN and Ethernet. It routes data between areas and is involved in accessing external communication and diagnostics. [1]

This is a different role from the display or engine controller. Bosch also describes protection mechanisms against unauthorized access, but their presence does not mean absolute inaccessibility. In diagnostics, the request can go through a gateway to the target block. Therefore, a physical connection to the jack does not guarantee that every action is allowed or that all internal networks are directly accessible.
