Congonhas: the staircase organizing the encounter with sculpture

Useful to know

Bom Jesus do Congonhas includes a church, an outdoor stairway with prophet statues and chapels containing sculptural scenes. Different arts participate in a shared religious ensemble. [1]

Trace the approach to the church rather than only its frontal facade. Steps change height and viewpoints. A statue on a route’s landing has a different role from an isolated detail in a museum-style photograph.
