In brief
The particulate filter retains particles of the exhaust. Regeneration is not synonymous with removing any accumulated material.
Useful to know
A DPF is a device in the exhaust system that physically retains solid particles of diesel exhaust. EPA describes regeneration as a process in which accumulated combustible particles are burned under appropriate conditions. [1]
Passive and active regeneration differ in how the necessary conditions are reached. This does not have to be translated into one universal driving instruction applicable to each vehicle. [1]
Practically distinguish accumulated soot, residual ash and a specific malfunction. The word "regeneration" does not prove that any reason for limited flow or warning lamp is removed.
The newsletter used is a general technical material for filters and does not replace the service documentation of the particular model. We don't set random revs, speed, or forced-cleaning times. Such actions require precise instructions and conditions, not a general description of the principle.
