The intelligent control of the lights uses an ambient brightness camera and vehicles in front and across. Bosch describes both the switching the high beams on and off and more complex variants with a change of range and segments. [1]

This is different from mechanically adjusting the height of the headlights under load. Two cars with "automatic high beams" can have different options. When choosing, check whether the system is only switching or shaping the light beam. The driver must monitor whether the other participants are blinded and follow the limitations of the particular system.
