The intercooler cools the air compressed by the turbocharger before entering the engine. HELLA associates the lowering of temperature with greater air density under the appropriate conditions. [1]

Track the air path on a circuit to distinguish the intercooler from the other forward heat exchangers. Its presence does not prove a specific power or a universal rate of improvement. When compared, it takes engine, mode and construction. A larger visible surface alone is not sufficient reason for a random replacement in a completed vehicle system.
