In brief
The preserved facade of the Roman theatre allows to think of the building as a spatial system.
Useful to know
The Ancient Theatre in Orange, in the Rhône Valley, is known for its preserved large stage facade. UNESCO indicates a length of 103 meters. The common site also includes the Roman triumphal arch, which is a separate monument. [1]
In theatre, attention is often directed only to the audience places. However, the stage side also organizes the space: it forms a boundary, a background, and a representative image. This is an architectural reading, not an acoustic measurement of a contemporary scene.
Compare a general plan with a frontal view of the wall. The first shows the relations between the parts, and the second - the scale of the facade. Don't mix the theater with the arch just because they're in the same entry. The common heritage can bring together different types of monuments, each with its own function and construction history.
