In brief
General listing does not mean one complex in a city.
Useful to know
The imperial palaces of the Ming and Qing dynasties include the Forbidden City in Beijing and the palace ensemble in Shenyang. UNESCO regards them as a related heritage, but they have separate locations and building histories. [1]
In comparison, start with the plan, purpose and period of each ensemble. Do not mix the data of buildings or area from one to the other. The palace architecture unites representative spaces, service and gardens; only the parade axis does not explain the whole complex. The juxtaposition of the different parts shows how power has organized not only an image, but also everyday use.
