In brief
Parks and buildings along Havel must be viewed together.
Useful to know
The complex of palaces and parks in Potsdam and Berlin collected construction and landscape from the period 1730-1916. It also extends to Berlin-Cellendorf, near Havel and Lake Glinike. Among its famous parts is Sansousi, built in 1745-1747. [1]
Here the separate building does not exhaust the architectural idea. Open spaces, water, and the arrangement of volumes are involved in general perception. In a map, look for how one structure connects to the next through the landscape, instead of viewing them as an independent list of addresses.
Different styles in the complex do not necessarily mean a lack of integrity. UNESCO specifically regards the ensemble as an artistic whole with a diverse character. For his own observation, he compared a view of a palace up close to a more distant point of view, in which the terrain and greenery occupy a large part of the frame.
