In brief
The coastal site combines several historical layers.
Useful to know
The Tipasa in Algeria was a Punic trading post and then a Roman strategic base. The archaeological environment includes Phoenician, Roman, Early Christian, and Byzantine traces, along with the local burial tradition. [1]
When looking at the ruins, it looks for the date and function markings. The proximity of two walls does not prove that they were built together. It is the overlay that makes the object valuable: the place has been reused and has changed its role. Instead of calling everything "Roman", relate the concrete remnant to its period and to its relation to the earlier environment.
