The engine control unit coordinates fuelling, air, injection and ignition according to the specific engine. Bosch describes requirements collection and prioritization, including pedal request and exhaust conditions. [1]

This explains why the pedal position does not mean one fixed opening or amount of fuel in all modes. The sensors feed data, and the controller calculates the actions. In the case of a system error, the code is not an automatic sentence for the ECU itself: the problem may be in an input, an actuator, a power supply or a connection.
