Ensaymada: a large spiral made for sharing

King Arthur Baking's Giant Ensaymada is an enlarged version of a Filipino sweet roll topped with cheese. The enriched dough also contains mashed potatoes, while this particular recipe brings together ham, sweetened condensed milk and cheese at different stages. [1]

This example shows why a sweet roll need not exclude savoury ingredients. The large shared shape is sliced into portions rather than served as individual small buns. When comparing it with another ensaymada, check the size and filling as well as the name.
